Injection Moulding

PLASTIC INJECTION MOULDINGS TO 1kg

Any colour of plastic can be used to give multi coloured assemblies.  Modern Plastic Injection machines allow precision parts to be made ready for immediate use.  Units can be produced in a variety of colours.

Parts can be machined or assembled with other components, giving assemblies containing plastic and metal parts.

Process of plastic injection moulding

Step 1: A suitable thermoplastic is chosen.

Step 2: The plastic is placed inside a heated chamber.

Step 3: Using high pressure, the plastic is softened and forced into a mould.

Step 4: The plastic is hardened within the mould.

Step 5: Once solidified, the plastic moulding is removed.

Thermoplastics (melts when heated)

Typical uses:
Toys
Bottles
Prosthetics
Instrument panels

Thermosets (hardens when heated)

Typical uses:
Construction materials
Automobile parts

Main methods of manufacture

a) Plastic Extrusion – Used for long lengths that have an equal cross section

Examples – Pipes or Window Frame sections

b) Plastic Injection Moulding – More complex shapes

Examples - Toys , Mobile or Telephone parts
